Aurora Del Sabor Mexican Food Truck

When I think about local favorites, one of the first places that comes to mind is Aurora Del Sabor Mexican Food Truck. Even though it isn't a CHamoru food business, it's definitely one of my favorite places to eat.

Aurora Del Sabor started back in 2021, selling food out of their home in Dededo across from Guam Home Center. Not long after, they got a food truck and started setting up at the Harmon Cost-U-Less on Saturdays. As more people discovered them, they began showing up at pop-up events all over the island. These days, you can usually find them at the Tuesday Dededo Night Market, the Wednesday Night Market at the Chamorro Village, and plenty of other food truck events around Guam.

One thing I really like about this business is the story behind it. The owners are a family from Mexico City, and from what they've told me, the money they make from the truck helps support their church here on Guam. I've asked them a few times when they're going to open a restaurant because their food is that good, but they always laugh and say the food truck is enough. They're happy doing what they're doing and helping where they can.

The reason I love Aurora Del Sabor so much is probably because it reminds me so much of my nana. My grandmother on my dad's side was Mexican, and she was an amazing cook. She actually met my tata in 1942 while he was stationed in San Francisco, and the two eventually married, had four children, and moved back to Guam. Growing up, she lived downstairs from my family, so I was lucky enough to eat homemade Mexican food all the time. Fresh flour tortillas, refried beans, enchiladas, and tamales were pretty normal meals in our house. She  taught me how to make most of her dishes, even tamales, which is still one of my favorite Christmas traditions.

Because of that, I'm pretty picky when it comes to Mexican food. I've tried most of the Mexican restaurants on Guam, and while some have dishes I enjoy, none of them really remind me of the food I grew up eating. Not Aurora Del Sabor though! Their dishes taste the most like what I grew up eating and still cook today.

Their menu includes tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tamales, pupusas, horchata, and a bunch of other great options. My go-to order is always the Tamal Plate. It comes with two large pork tamales, Mexican rice, and refried beans, and it's honestly one of my favorite meals on island. If I'm especially hungry, I'll grab a couple of carne asada or fish tacos too.

I've tried just about everything on their menu at least once, and I really don't think you can make a bad choice. But if you're trying them for the first time, I'd definitely recommend the tamales and tacos. They're my favorites, and they're the dishes that keep me coming back whenever I see the truck at an event.

If you ever get the chance to try Aurora Del Sabor, I highly recommend them!
